Hints for Using Companies Power Search

Top  Previous  Next

The Companies Power Search tool is an advanced searching feature that provides an ability to create custom searches that can be archived and re-used. Keep the following rules in mind:

1.For performance reasons only, the first row of the Companies Power Search should return the smallest result set. For example, it would not be sensible to first search on City because it could return 10,000 Companies, whereas a search for a previously saved list of Companies would return a much smaller set of Companies.

2.Use the Companies Power Search feature for multiple Attributes searches.

3.Use People Power Search to concurrently search for Document text content, data content and Attributes.

4.Results of a Companies Power Search can be saved as a static list. The list can then be used as input to a Mail merge or a Project.

5.Phrase variations should be enclosed with Red Brackets, and use OR as the connector between phrases. See example below. To set a bracket, click in the small box. To remove a bracket, click in the box that already has a bracket.

6.Create and use Friendly Name queries such as “Companies Like...” with a syntax such as:

SELECT CompaniesID FROM Companies WITH (NOLOCK)

WHERE Companies.Company LIKE 'KPMG%' OR Companies.Company  LIKE 'Kates Peat%'

8.To save the Companies Power Search form in the catalog for later use, click Save As, select a folder, then give the Companies Power Search form a name.

9.Search is for ALL items selected.

10.Search time is dependent on the number of records returned, so expect longer search times for more data.

11.A search is limited to never return more that 10,000 rows. This is a safety feature to prevent server overloads.

12.To clear the search form, click Clear All.

13.To start a Companies Power Search, click Search.

14.A list generated by a Companies Power Search may be saved, then at a later stage merged with another list. The merged list will not have duplicates. Try one of these:

Company is in a List...(Like...)

Companies in Industry...(Like ...)
