Hints for Using People Power Search

Top  Previous  Next

The People Power Search tool is an advanced searching feature that provides an ability to create custom searches that can be archived and re-used. Keep the following rules in mind:

1.For performance reasons only, the first row of the People Power Search should return the smallest result set. It would not be sensible to search on the Ottawa-Hull location first, because it could return 10,000 Candidates, whereas a search for “System Analyst” could return a much smaller set of say 1,000 Candidates.

2.Use the People Power Search feature for multiple role and industry searches.  Also use it for compensation, skills and activity history searches.

3.Use People Power Search to combine a search for text content, data content and skills.

4.Results of a People Power Search can be saved as a static list.  The list can then be used as input to a Mail merge, Project or Job order.

5.Phrase variations should be enclosed with Red Brackets, and use OR as the connector between phrases. See example below. To set a bracket, click in the small box. To remove a bracket, click in the box that already has a bracket.

6.For location searches, combine a search of both the database AND the resumes.

7.Create and use Power Search Friendly Name queries such as “Home Phone in Ottawa-Hull” with a syntax such as:

SELECT PeopleID FROM People WITH (NOLOCK)

WHERE People.Phone5 LIKE '(613)%' OR People.Phone5 LIKE '(819)%'

8.To save the People Power Search form in the catalog for later use, click Save As, select a folder, then give the Power Search form a name such as “Ottawa-Hull System analyst Coaches with OOAD”

9.Search is for ALL items selected.

10.Search time is dependent on the number of records returned, so expect longer search times.

11.A search will never return more that 10,000 rows. This is a safety feature to prevent server overloads.

12.Activity History contains the largest number of records, so expect longer search times.

13.To clear the search form, click Clear All.

14.To start a Power Search, click Search.

15.A list generated by a People Power Search may be saved, then at a later stage merged with another list. The merged list will not have duplicates. Try one of these:

People on Company List with Name...(Like...)

People on People List  with Name...(Like ...)

NOTE: The FTR (Full Text Ranking) column is meaningless in a Power Search result set, because database content cannot be relevance ranked.
